EISCAT,Svalbard,Norway. EISCAT (European Incoherent Scatter Scientific Association) in Svalbard uses radar dishes to monitor the interaction between solar wind on the Earth's magnetic field. These interactions occur as disturbances in the Earth's ionosphere and magnetosphere and can be observed at high latitudes as the aurora borealis. Solar storms can affect modern telecommunication systems such as satellites,TV signals, telephones,GPS navigation and power systems. Photographed in 2014 | |
