Michele Karen Dougherty (born 1962),South African-born British astrophysicist. Dougherty is a Professor of Space Physics at Imperial College London. Behind her is a scale model of the Cassini spacecraft that was launched in 1997 and has been in orbit around Saturn since 2004. Some of the pictures obtained are at right. Dougherty was one of the Principal Investigators on the Cassini-Huygens mission. She was awarded the Hughes Medal in 2008 for her work that led to the discovery of an atmosphere around Saturn's moon Enceladus. She was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 2012.
