View of the dam wall of the Maroondah reservoir,Healesville,Victoria Australia. The Maroondah reservoir is administered by Melbourne Water Corporation, and is one of ten major reservoirs supplying water for the city of Melbourne; their total storage capacity is 1810 billion litres. The Maroondah reservoir was completed in 1927,and has a capacity of 22 billion litres. The average rainfall across its catchment is 1154mm/yr. The catchment is largely natural forest with limited public access; the reservoir water requires only minimal treatment before use.The picture was taken in December 2013 when the water level was about at 85% of capacity. During the prolonged drought in Australia in the early part of the 21st century the water level dropped to about 25% of capacity, causing Melbourne Water to impose restrictions on water use throughout the state of Victoria | |
