Mesolite is a member of the zeolite group of minerals, related to Natrolite and Scolecite. It occurs in delicate needle shaped (acicular),radial crystals when free growing,or as sugary rounded inclusions in igneous host rocks, usually white or colorless,as seen in this specimen. Chemically it is a hydrous sodium calcium aluminum silicate and it has the monoclinic crystal system. The mesolite inclusions in this sample are in a volcanic basalt host-rock from Stromo,Faroer Islands | |
