Liver cancer. Light micrograph of a section through a hepatoblastoma,a rare malignant (cancerous) tumour of the liver.Hepatoblastomas are a type of teratoma, cancers which contain tissues which are not usually found at the site of the cancer. These may include hair and even teeth. Hepatoblastomas typically appear at about one year of age,and are highly malignant. If they are caught before they spread (usually to the lungs),chemotherapy and excision of part or all of the liver may provide a cure, but generally the prognosis is poor. Magnification: x150 when printed at 10 centimetres wide. Human tissue | |
