Snow gums,Eucalyptus pauciflora, growing amongst rocks on the summit ridge of Mt. Timbertop,Victoria Australia,at 1240m above sea level. The tree in the foreground shows the typical thick and twisted lower trunk of the subspecies E. pauciflora pauciflora. The high exposure to wind in this situation favours this stocky form with branching near to the ground. E pauciflora is useful in mountain areas for erosion protection and the interception of drifting snow. Its timber is prone to warping, and generally only suitable for use as fuel or fence posts | |
