Fresco in the Cappella Brancacci,Florence painted by Masaccio (1401-1427),. It is based on the account in the Bible of the miraculous healings in the streets of Jerusalem by St.Peter as his shadow falls across the sick. This street is lined with typically medieval Florentine buildings. It is depicted in accurate perspective and with Masaccio's use of his 'rilievo' technique based on directional lighting the cast shadows are realistically demonstrated. By introducing these methods Masaccio revolutionised early Renaissance painting and he influenced other artists such as Fra Angelica and Michelangelo | |
