Space Shuttle Discovery fuel cell
Fuel cell being replaced in Space Shuttle Dicovery's payload bay after being drained of all fluids in preparation for the shuttle's public display. This is one of three fuel cells that provided electrical power for the shuttle. Hydrogen and oxygen reacted within the cell to create electrical power,water and heat. The excess heat was fed into heat exchangers and the water was fed into the potable water storage system.
