Comet C/2012 F6 (Lemmon). Comets are bodies of ice and dust that enter the inner solar system from the outer solar system. As they approach the Sun,the heat boils the ice, producing a coma around the nucleus, along with a tail stretching out behind it. Comet C/2012 F6 was discovered in March 2012 using the 1.5 metre telescope at Mount Lemmon,Arizona,USA. Peaking at around 4th magnitude it became visible to the naked eye in the southern hemisphere. It moved into the northern skies during April and May. This image was obtained on 15 May 2013 | |
