Drawing of a 7-pound howitzer belonging to the field artillery of the German Confederation in 1842. The short-barrelled howitzer was designed to fire high into the air to clear obstacles, allowing fire into defended areas such as a city wall. The ammunition was a 7-pound spherical exploding shell.
