Douche made from pewter and ivory,dating from around 1860,mainland Europe. Douches were used in this era for rinsing bodily orifices including the vagina,the rectum and the intestines. Rinsing fluid would be held in the pewter container and a pump mechanism would control the passage of this fluid into the tube and nozzle.
