Child labour in canning factory. Boy working at a production line in a canning factory. The gearing of the machinery is exposed,creating hazardous working conditions that caused many injuries and some fatalities before regulations were passed and enforced to make conditions safer. This is the J. S. Farrand Packing Company,in Baltimore,Maryland,USA. Photographed on 7 July 1909 by US sociologist and photographer Lewis Wickes Hine (1874-1940). Hine was a photographer for the National Child Labor Committee (NCLC),documenting working and living conditions for children,and campaigning against child labour and poverty in the USA
