Low-boom supersonic aircraft. Artwork illustrating an aircraft design concept developed by NASA. This is referred to as the 'Low-Boom Supersonic Test Case'. It is part of research efforts into aircraft that would be able to fly at supersonic speeds over land. The concept, being developed at NASA's Langley Research Center, includes an F-100-like propulsion system,a tail blister, and a shape designed to achieve a lower decibel level for the sonic booms as perceived by those below. Such concepts could be used by industry to design commercial supersonic aircraft. Wind tunnel model tests were carried out in 2012 | |
