The structures are stone astronomical instruments (yantras) used to time observations of celestial objects,to measure local time,and to predict the movements of the Sun,Moon and planets. This is one of five observations constructed between 1724 and 1734 on the orders of Maharaja Jai Singh II. (1688-1743).
