Lefebvre petrol car. 19th-century artwork of a Lefebvre petrol car. This is a small carriage in dog-cart style. The four passengers on its open top are seated back-to-back in a riding style known in French as 'dos-a-dos'. The engine is a small two-cylinder one called the 'Pygmee',developed by French engineer Leon Lefebvre. The steering mechanism is at left. Later cars,using more powerful engines,would be enclosed. Artwork from the first volume (1897) of 'La Revue Scientifique et Industrielle' by French chemist and inventor Jules-Louis Breton (1872-1940)
