Monoceros R2 nebulae,infrared image. This star formation region is an association of massive hot young stars illuminating a collection of reflection nebulae,embedded in a large molecular cloud. Monoceros R2 is located around 2700 light years from Earth,in the constellation of Monoceros. This image was obtained with the VIRCAM (VISTA Infrared Camera) instrument on the VISTA (Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy) telescope at ESO's Paranal Observatory.
