Composite of a sequence of images showing the motion of the midnight sun (orange) along the northern horizon above the Norwegian Sea,Norway,at a latitude of 69 degrees north. At this latitude the sun doesn't set in June and July. Instead the midnight sun glides close to the northern horizon before rising again (as seen here). Also shown is the 6th June 2012 Transit of Venus,with Venus barely visible as a black dot on the upper left of the solar disc. The Transit of Venus is a rare celestial phenomenon that occurs in 8-year pairs separated by more than 100 years | |
