On the right of the Balance the jackal-headed Anubis,god of the afterlife,is weighing the heart (conscience) of the deceased Ani against a feather which is symbolical of Law. Left of the balance is Shai,representing Destiny,followed by the two goddesses Renenit and Meschenit. Above them is the soul of Ani as a human-headed hawk. Seated on top of the balance is a form of the god Thoth as a small baboon.
