Senet, translated as 'the passing game',was the most popular board game in Egypt and other parts of the ancient world. Similar to draughts or checkers,it had a religious significance in that developing skills in the game was a metaphor for the preparation necessary to pass successfully through the underworld to the afterlife. Senet games often appear in funerary papyri and the game boards and pieces are frequently found in Egyptian tombs. From the ''Book of the Dead, the Papyrus of Ani,Egypt (c.1275 BC) | |
