Congenital teratoma. Infant with a sacrococcygeal teratoma. This is a tumour that arises from the germ (sex) cells. Because germ cells develop into all the cells of the body, the tumour can contain a variety of different tissues, including bone, tooth and hair. The tumour is most often benign (non-cancerous),but can be malignant (cancerous). Tumours that contain a large number of blood vessels can put a strain on the foetus' heart, causing heart failure | |
