Kepler-10 star system. Artwork of two of the planets that orbiting the star Kepler-10. This star is 560 light years from Earth, near the constellations of Cygnus and Lyra. Kepler-10c (left, discovery announced May 2011) has a radius 2.2 times that of Earth and orbits with a period of 45 days. Kepler-10b (right, dark spot transiting its parent star, discovery announced January 2011),has a radius 1.4 times that of Earth and orbits with a period of 0.8 days. Both were discovered by the Kepler spacecraft and both have very high temperatures. Kepler-10c was also identified using infrared Spitzer Space Telescope observations | |
