| Communications satellite in Earth orbit,artwork. These satellites operate from a geostationary orbit 35,786 kilometres above the Earth. This allows them to rotate with the Earth,remaining stationary above the same point on the Earth's surface. Orbital corrections are carried out with a small fuel supply,with exhaust gases seen emerging from the rocket engine nozzles. Antennas (dishes) are used to transmit and receive data.
