Lateral flow test device with cover removed. This device is a test kit designed to detect the presence of a specific substance. Examples include pregnancy tests, though many other tests using the same technique are also available. The underlying principle is an immunoassay analysis, where the sample moves along the dipstick (top) by capillary action. When the sample reaches points on the dipstick impregnated with antibodies or antigens, coloured lines are formed indicating a positive or negative result. The sample is added through the round window, with result lines (T,test; C,control) observed through the rectangular window | |
