Kinegraphe camera. Photographer operating a Kinegraphe,an early French camera,the design of which first appeared in the late 1880s. It had a lens in a brass barrel at the front,and the photographer looked through a viewfinder on top. The camera's shutter was operated with the switch by the left hand,and the photographic plates were inserted at the back of the camera (plate holder seen below the camera). The Kinegraphe was sold by E. Francais,based in Paris. Artwork from the seventh volume (first period of 1891) of the French popular science weekly 'La Science Illustree'
