Charles Hutton (1737-1823),English mathematician,working with a quill pen,ink pot,paper and books. Hutton was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1774. He published numerous mathematical works. In the 1770s,he reported on the work done by Maskelyne to measure the mean density and mass of the Earth. He was professor of mathematics at the Royal Military Academy,Woolwich,London,and was awarded the Copley Medal of the Royal Society in 1778 | |
