Hand operated dental drill (at top) and bur thimble (below). The bur thimble (made by Henry Coy) is on a moveable hinge and this socket ring was used with long handled drills rotated by the index finger and thumb. The ring fitted over the index finger and the drill shaft wedged into the finger ring socket, allowing greater pressure to be put on the bur. Dated 1846 | |
