Ethiopian deforestation. Women carrying logs along a path in a rural mountainous area of Ethiopia. Increasing population in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa as a whole has led to rising pressures on natural resources. This includes clearing forests for farming and firewood. This deforestation is causing increased soil erosion in the rainy season,when deep ravines are formed on the mountainsides. These logs will be used to build dikes to control the water and halt the soil erosion. Photographed in the area around Midagdo Valley and Taganey Mountain,Ethiopia
