Historical Coombs test kit. Antiglobulin test kit produced by the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS). The Coombs test comprises two blood tests - the direct antiglobulin test (DAT) and indirect antiglobulin test (IAT). The more common DAT is used to test for autoimmune haemolytic anaemia. The IAT is used in prenatal testing and prior to blood transfusions,to detect antibodies that might attack the red blood cells. This is done to prevent danger to the foetus,or rejection of the transfused blood | |
