Larch timber logs. This timber is widely used in forestry since it is resistant to rot and therefore useful for fence posts, fencing, house construction and furniture. It is also made into chipboard. These logs were cut from a plantation in the UK,where the favoured larch is Larix kaempferi, the Japanese larch. The sawn ends display clear annual growth rings. The log at centre has been cut at the level of four side branches, giving rise to the four knots seen here | |
