Theodore Phillips,British astronomer
Theodore Evelyn Reece Phillips (1868-1942),British astronomer and Anglican curate and vicar. Usually known by his initials as T. E. R. Phillips,he started his ministry at Holy Trinity in Taunton,Somerset,in 1895. His final and longest ministry,in Headley,Surrey,was from 1916 until just before his death. His work as an amateur astronomer included observations of Mars and Jupiter. He was awarded the Jackson-Gwilt Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1918. He was also the co-author of the book 'Splendour of the Heavens' (1923). This is the portrait taken for his tenure as President of the Royal Astronomical Society from 1927 to 1929
