Spiral galaxy NGC 2841,infrared image. This galaxy lies around 46 million light years from Earth in the constellation Ursa Major. Older stars in the galaxy are blue, cooler dusty gaseous regions are red. NGC 2841 has a weakly active nucleus known as as a low ionisation nuclear emission-line region (LINER). LINERs are characterised by spectral emission lines from weakly ionised or neutral atoms. Image obtained by the Infrared Array Camera (IRAC) of the Spitzer Space Telescope (SST) | |
