Sandford Fleming (1827-1915),Canadian engineer. Born in Scotland,Fleming emigrated to Canada aged 17 in 1845. He is best-known for proposing standard time zones and a system of Universal Time. He is also known for designing the first Canadian postage stamp in 1851. As an engineer,he worked for the Grand Trunk Railway,and was Chief Engineer of the Northern Railway of Canada.
