Human skull from Sarawak,Borneo, carved with Kayan designs. A trophy of war,or of successful raids. Patterns are predominantly floral motifs, though the forehead bears a stylized vulval image (a similar specimen is on display in the Asian Civilization Museum Singapore). The purpose of these traditional carvings is unclear. Recent facsimile skulls often use a deeper contemporary "Aso" dragon carving style which was not used while headhunting was common practice in Borneo | |
