Iberian midwife toad (Alytes obstetricans almogavarii). This toad's name is derived from the male's habit of carrying the fertilized eggs on its back. When the eggs are due to hatch, the male carries the eggs into the water where the tadpoles can emerge. Photographed in the French Pyrenees | |
