The main object (figure 1 and 2) is a mechanism that attempts to turn the smallest difference in heat during the day into mechanical force used to wind up a clock. The device uses multiple links and levers to maximise the effect of thermal expansion,then turns this into a winding motion through the cam and wheels at upper left.
