Page of illustrations from an 18th century magazine. The item labelled II is a design of a weighbridge. The side view (right) has been rotated to appear upright. This was a novel design in which the object to be weighed need only be sat on the bridge section (as today),at the time it was more common to sling the load under a weighing arm. At centre (marked IV and V) is a design of hygometer,or humidity measuring device. At left, labelled III,is an unusual fish described as being green in colour and referred to as a 'sea adder'. Items VI and VII are described as a fish called an 'eye sucker'. These illustrations appeared in the Gentleman's Magazine in 1748 | |
