Electroactive bioplastic research. Chemist with different samples of electroactive bioplastics developed in her laboratory. Bioplastics are plastics that are derived from renewable biomass sources, such as vegetable oil or corn starch. These samples are made using electroactive polymers (EAPs) that change shape and/or size when stimulated by electricity. It is hoped they may be used in biomedical applications, specialized sensors,light-emitting diodes, and even the next generation of robotic Mars rovers.
