Dire wolves and mammoths. Pack of dire wolves (Canis dirus) surrounding two mammoths (Mammuthus sp.) in North America,150 thousand years ago during the Upper Pleistocene Epoch. The dire wolf was found in North and South America. It had a short and stocky build and grew up to 1.5 metres in length. Mammoths were large mammals,weighing on average around 6 to 8 tonnes.
