Enos the astrochimp. Enos the chimpanzee being prepared for insertion into the Mercury-Atlas 5 (MA-5) capsule. MA-5 was an American unmanned spaceflight of the Mercury program. It was launched on November 29,1961 and orbited the Earth twice before splashing down off the coast of Puerto Rico. MA-5 was planned as a close approximation of the upcoming MA-6 manned orbital mission. Enos' training was more intense than that of Ham,the Americans' first chimp in space, because Enos would be exposed to weightlessness and a higher g-force for longer periods of time | |
