Enos the astrochimp. Enos the chimpanzee in training to go into space. Enos was launched into space on-board Mercury-Atlas 5 (MA-5),an American unmanned spaceflight of the Mercury program. It was launched on November 29,1961 and orbited the Earth twice before splashing down off the coast of Puerto Rico. MA-5 was planned as a close approximation of the upcoming MA-6 manned orbital mission. Enos' training was more intense than that of Ham,the Americans' first chimp in space,because Enos would be exposed to weightlessness and a higher g-force for longer periods of time
