Perseus A (ngc 1275) galaxy, coloured X-ray image. This massive galaxy lies at the centre of the Persues galaxy cluster around 230 million light years from Earth. At the galaxy's centre is a supermassive black hole that is emitting X-rays. Colours represent different X-ray energies, from red (lowest) through green to blue (highest). The bright blue areas are thought to be a smaller galaxy that has been torn apart by Perseus A and is now falling into it.
