Lunar plant research. Jars containing aseptic cultures of liverwort (Marchantia polymorpha) plants. The plants in the top row have been inoculated with finely ground lunar material collected by the crew of Apollo 11. The plants in the lower row have not had anything added to them. There is a notable difference, both in size and colour, between the two sets of samples suggesting that the liverworts were able to gain nutrients from the lunar material.
