John Brashear (1840-1920),American astronomer and instrument maker. From 1861 Brashear worked in Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania,as a millwright at a steel mill. To enable him to pursue his interest in astronomy he made telescopes and scientific instruments in his spare time. From 1880 he moved to manufacturing instruments full-time. Brashear's instruments and optics were of a high quality and used by observatories all over the world,some are still in use today | |
