| Surgeons prepare a 70-year old man for an operation to correct his irregular heart ryhthms or atrial fibrillation by inserting a catheter into his heart via his groin and ablating or burning away groups of cells which form abnormal electrical pathways in the heart. The large X-ray machine at right will transmit information to the surgeon in a control suite outside the operating theatre,avoiding the large X-ray dose which could be incurred over the course of a lengthy procedure if the surgeon manually inserted the catheter.
