Remote controlled cardiac catheterisation

| Cardiologist in an control suite monitors progress of remote catheterisation of a 70-year old man in a procedure to correct his irregular heart ryhthms or atrial fibrillation. Surgeon Dr Andre Ng uses ECG data and real-time X-ray displays from the large X-ray machine at the right of the operating theatre to remotely guide the catheters into the patient's heart to correct the fibrillation by burning specific tissue. This technique enables the surgeon to avoid the large doses of X-ray radiation involved in manual catherisation over the course of a lengthy procedure.
