Gerry Gilmore,British astronomer,standing on a sandy beach. Gilmore is Professor of Experimental Philosophy at the Institute of Astronomy,Cambridge University,UK. He studies stellar populations and is principal investigator for Gaia,a space mission that will provide a three-dimensional map of some 1000 million stars in the Milky Way.
