The ancient Yew (Taxus baccata) of Lytchet Matravers has an estimated age of 1600 years. It has a girth of 7m (measured 1m above ground). Old Yew trees can regenerate, with new shoots growing from the base and fusing together. Here, the original trunk has long since rotted away. The majority of the world's ancient Yew trees are found in the British Isles. Dorset,UK | |
