Andean condor. Young Andean condor (Vultur gryphus) that has been released as part of the Andean Condor Conservation Project. Andean condors are one of the world's largest birds and are critically endangered (as of 2010). The project, founded in 1991,aims to reintroduce Andean condors to the wild through captive breeding programs and nursing injured birds back to health. Each bird that is released is fitted with a tracking chip to give researchers a better idea of how these animals live. Photographed in Patagonia,Chile | |
