Paragneissic rocks. Gneiss rocks form by metamorphosis, changes to pre-existing igneous or sedimentary rocks due to heat and pressure at depth. Sedimentary rocks form paragneiss, with a range of generally reddish colours and sedimentary layers sometimes still visible. These examples of paragneissic rocks were lifted to the surface and exposed and further eroded by river erosion. These rocks are in Switzerland, and these processes occurred during the formation of the Swiss Alps. Photographed on the Verzasca River | |
