Sabre-toothed cat. Artwork of a sabre-toothed (Smilodon sp.) cat attacking its prey. Smilodon sabre-toothed cats were powerful predators with a robust build similar to that of a bear. Their maxillary canines protruded outside their mouths, and could reach over 28 centimetres in length. The canines were probably used as a stabbing weapon when attacking prey. They lived 1.8 million years ago until 10,000 years ago | |
